Myanmar Enterprise Monitoring System (MEMS)

Denmark supports to establishing a Myanmar En-terprise Monitoring System (MEMS) to be carried out through an engagement with the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) under the Ministry of Planning and Finance. The resulting surveys are expected to give important insights into the SME sector and enhance the understanding of the dynamics and constraints of private industrial enterprises, thereby creating the basis for formulat-ing sound policies for the development of this important sector. The engagement will build on collaboration between CSO and a recognized international research partner.

The main objective of initiating the MEMS engagement is to develop a better understanding of the constraints to doing business in Myanmar and of the key elements that affect the transition from informal to formal private manufacturing entities, general company survival and sustained employment generation and productivity growth.
